Dr. Ramirez began in network operations, where she developed the deep, intuitive understanding of how networks behave that underpins all her later work. Moving into security, she found that her operational grounding gave her an edge: she could see not just where an attack might come from, but how it would actually traverse a real network, and where a defender could realistically stop it. That practical orientation has defined her career.
She has built and operated defensive infrastructure for organisations of every size, from small businesses to large enterprises, designing the firewalls, monitoring, and detection systems that keep networks safe. Her doctoral research addressed network intrusion detection and the persistent challenge of separating genuine threats from benign anomalies.
